HUCA Lab is an chip-interactive software tool designed to help students observe on-chip signals in a user-friendly manner.

The department had limited budget available to order new and advanced FPGA boards with more interactive peripherals. The only boards we had were LX9 Microboard (shown in Figure above) which had only 4 user LEDs and 4 dip switches. That were not enough to help “beginners” to implement and test RISC-V processor intuitively. Therefore, to overcome this barrier and make the entire process interactive for students, I developed a software which would read and send data to on-chip processor using UART interface. Students were able to observe data (greater than 4-bit) using the user-friendly software interface (shown above).
